Assessing the On-Campus Reproductive and Gynecological Service at UCLA
Around the world, women are at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing quality health services. The emphasis placed on women’s reproductive roles and the higher incidence rates of physical, sexual, and emotional violence towards women all hinder their chances of seeking gynecological and reproductive support. Although this problem is actively assessed on a global level, it is equally as important to examine this issue on a local scale, especially on college campuses. College is often a time when students begin to explore their sexual boundaries, putting them at risk of unintended pregnancy, childbirth, sexually transmitted infections and more. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate students’ experiences using on-campus sexual health services. This study is a mixed methods assessment of student perspectives on reproductive and gynecological service provisions at UCLA’s Arthur Ashe Women’s Health Clinic (WHC). The purpose is to identify any health disparities present across different student demographic groups with respect to on-campus reproductive and gynecological care. We want this study to serve as an opportunity to advocate for the WHC to receive further resources and to center student voices in developing recommendations for any potential enhancements in the services provided.

Research Aims

  1. Assess the affordability and accessibility of WHC’s services
  2. Assess the quality of care provided by the WHC
  3. Integrate student perspectives into developing recommendations for potential enhancements in the services provided by the WHC
